Dimensional Change Management and Version Control
Change management is the cornerstone of a successful dimension
management initiative. +EDM provides a comprehensive,
best-practice approach to the management of dimensional change.
+EDM expertly manages the change process and tracks activity
throughout the versioning cycle of a dimension—identifying a
change, modifying the version, approving new changes, validating
a modified version, committing the version to record, publishing
the version to the enterprise.
The first version of a dimension is loaded into +EDM, validated
and published as the dimension of record. As changes occur and
the dimension evolves, +EDM generates a new version of the
dimension. Each version is open for additions, deletions and
amendments. +EDM's validation process enforces dimensional
accuracy and adherence to business rules. Once validated and
committed to record, the version becomes available through +EDM's
Open Subscription Interface to any subscribing system across the
enterprise.
+EDM's sophisticated versioning model supports two important
approaches to dimension management. The sequencing approach
provides for incremental versioning of a dimension as changes
occur over time.
Version Sequencing
The branching approach supports unlimited parallel tracks, which
run simultaneously. This parallel track approach benefits the
enterprise when planning cycles and actual reporting cycles
overlap or when extraordinary events such as reorganizations,
mergers and acquisitions coincide with the normal course of
business.
